Wow! Eight months of blogging have gone by. When I started my blog eight months ago I was discouraged and felt I would never make money blogging. With hard work and determination I’ve taken my blog from 200 page views a month to over 6000 page views a month in the last eight months. I’ve also gone from making 20 cents in the first month to over $400 in month eight! I’ll let you in on my tips and what has worked for me later in this post.
Blogging has been such a blessing for my family and I. Not only does it provide extra income but it gives me a creative outlet. I’ve been a stay at home mom for thirteen years. It’s hard to keep your identity at times as a stay at home mom. Blogging has given me the opportunity to work from home and still be able to play with my toddler and attend school functions for my older girls. I now officially consider myself a “blogger”! When people ask what I do for a living I say that I’m a stay at home mom and I have a blog. I’ve encountered a few people who think it’s a joke or not a real job, but if you’re a blogger you fully understand just how hard and time-consuming it can be.

Let’s start by looking at my goals for October.
Write and publish five blog posts ( I published six blog posts )
Create ten new affiliate pins (I created three new affiliate pins )
Increase income and followers ( I increased both my income and followers)
Send out a newsletter ( I did send out a newsletter)
Start writing my holiday gift guides ( I started writing two holiday gift guides)
Create new pins for five old posts ( I created new pins for four old posts)
Being active on social media has really helped to increase my social media following. For my twitter account I use the free version of buffer. Eventually I will upgrade to the paid version but for now the free version does the job. I have also upgraded my boardbooster from the free version as well. I’m so impressed with the impact it’s had on my Pinterest growth and traffic. If you want to give boardbooster a try click hereto get your first 500 pins free. It’s such a great way to give the program a try.
Two months ago I started the course Making Sense Of Affiliate Marketingand love it. Michelle teaches how to choose the right affiliates for your niche. One of the biggest things I learned from the course is to figure out what your audience wants, what problem do they need solved? This course is definitely worth the money. It’s not just a onetime course, you can continue to go back through the course and learn more each time. Check out the course here and start making more money blogging!
My top posts for October were:
My goals for November are:
Publish three gift guides
Create ten new affiliate pins
Increase followers and income
Start brainstorming New Years posts
Get into a blogging schedule so that it doesn’t take over my life!
Here are a few other ways I make money from home.
Swagbucks: My October income was $1.96 giving me a total of $41.78. With Swagbucks you earn points my watching videos, taking survey’s and shopping through their links. If your going to buy something on Amazon or another site, go through their links you’ll earn points. Once you reach 2,500 points you can redeem them for a $25 gift card or keep saving up to get larger gift cards. Another awesome perk is that you earn points when you refer your friends to Swagbucks!
Inbox Dollars: My October income was $.46, I know it’s not a lot but it all adds up. I now have a total of $15.09 in my account. Inbox Dollars works pretty much the same way as Swagbucks. One thing I like about Inbox Dollars is that I can play games to earn money too. Just like Swagbucks you earn money when you refer friends and others to Inbox Dollars. My favorite thing about Inbox dollars is that you earn money just opening emails!
I also use Ibotta and Checkout 51 but haven’t done much with them this month.
My tips and advice:
Be persistent! I’ve applied for so many opportunities and gotten turned down but this past month I started getting jobs!!!
Follow others in your niche. Don’t copy what they are doing but instead be inspired by their content.
Keep a notebook nearby to write your ideas down. I come up with most of my blog post ideas as I fall asleep at night. By keeping a notebook by my bed I’m able to jot it down and come back to it the next day.
Don’t let social media take over your life. I’ve struggled with this for a few months but finally have it under control. I used to participate in every Facebook thread possible and spent hours per day completing those threads. Not only did this take away from my family time and personal time but I had no time to create content. I’ve shifted my focus to creating content now and only participate in a few threads per day.
