It’s that time of year again. Summer vacation always starts out great but usually within a few weeks the kids are bored. Then there’s the arguing between siblings. Over the years I’ve come up with a few tips and tricks to the entire summer vacation with your kids enjoyable.
As you may already know, we are a military family. Quite often my husband is deployed over summer vacation, which leaves me alone with three girls. My kids are 12,7 and 2. The age difference means I must have age appropriate activities for each kid.

Tips and tricks to enjoy summer vacation with any age child.
Stock up on craft supplies. If you’re stocked up, when a rainy day hits you’ll still have something to entertain the kids.
Meal planning makes life much easier during the summer. If you have a plan, the nights that you’re in the pool or playing outside longer than usual you’ll still have dinner covered.
Find local activities for your kids. Storytime, summer camps or vacation Bible school are great choices.
If you’re a pregnant or nursing mom, make sure you have an amazing breast pump so you have a ready supply of milk for your outings. You can get your breast pump at no cost through Tricare. Check out The Breastfeeding Shop to get yours.
Stock up on sunscreen. It never fails, my kids are dying to swim or play outside and we are out of sunscreen.
Create daily and weekly chores for your kids. It’s up to you if they get an allowance for their chores.
Limit screen time. I’ve found that if my kids have limited screen time, they are more appreciative of it when they do get it.
Visit your local library or order books online to keep their minds sharp.
Get your kids involved in making their own snacks. Prepackaged snacks are super easy but also more expensive. We like to buy muffin mixes that cost $1 to keep in the pantry.
If you have to get out of the house but it’s raining and there are no activities in your area that day, visit the Dollar Tree. Kids love shopping at the Dollar Tree and it won’t cost you very much at all.
Keep a bag of Dollar Tree goodies on hand for when your kids get super crabby.
