If you’re struggling to keep a clean kitchen, these tips and routines will help.
Some people seem to always have a clean home. Everything is in its place, free of clutter and smelling fresh. Obviously, this isn’t the norm. If you’re like me, there are days when everything is in its place, and my house smells fantastic, but there are more days when there are toys all over, it smells like dogs, and the laundry is piled up.
When it comes to having a clean home, I find that the kitchen is the most important place to keep clean. So much happens in the kitchen. Besides cooking meals, the kitchen tends to be a place the whole family spends time.

As a homemaker, if my kitchen is a mess, I tend to be more irritable and stressed. A messy kitchen makes getting the kids’ snacks more difficult as well as cooking meals. If you want to have a sparkling house or even just a home that is semi-clean, the kitchen is the place to start.
Here are some secrets of people that always have a clean kitchen.
Keep the dishes under control.
When I was growing up, we didn’t have a dishwasher. In fact, to this day, my parents still don’t have a dishwasher. My brother and I took turns washing the dishes. I find myself handwashing my dishes quite often instead of using the dishwasher. However you do your dishes, make sure to keep up with them.
Washing your dishes a few times a day or keeping up with the dishwasher will help you avoid a sink full of dirty dishes. If there’s on thing I hate in my kitchen, it’s running out of cups or silverware. It’s not only about washing your dishes, though; you need to take care of them too.
Every house seems to have that one place where things pile up. You walk in the door after getting the mail and set it on the counter, or drop your purse there when you get home. If you have kids, you’ll find some very random things on your kitchen counters.
Keeping the clutter off your counters will make wiping them down much easier. Take care of the mail as soon as you bring it in and find a special place for your purse to be stored when you’re at home. If you can’t eliminate the clutter altogether, try using a decorative basket to keep the mail or random things in.
Make sure everything has a place.
If your counters are cluttered with small appliances like the coffee maker, blender, toaster, or kitchen utensils, it can keep your kitchen from looking clean.
Store appliances that you don’t use every day in cupboards or your pantry. Obviously, in my house, the coffee maker is always out since coffee is life. Our toaster doesn’t get used very often, though, so that is stored in a cupboard until it’s needed.
Kitchen Utensils can be stored in drawers or on the counter in a cute organizer. It all depends on how often you cook and what you need easy access to daily.
Your kitchen will stay cleaner longer if you make a habit of cleaning up after every mealand even while you’re cooking the meal. Simply spending ten minutes loading the dishwasher or washing your dishes as soon as you finish a meal makes keep your kitchen clean easier in the long run.
If I’m making a big dinner, I usually wash some of the dishes I’ve dirtied while I’m waiting for the food to finish cooking. Another trick I use is to empty the dishwasher while dinner is cooking. It’s so nice to finish a meal and only have to put the dirty dishes into the dishwasher.
It’s amazing how spending just ten minutes here, or there can make such a difference in the kitchen. Following these tips will help you KEEP your kitchen clean, instead of spending an hour cleaning your super messy kitchen every day.
